About this eventThis interactive culinary for camp for kids will start out with teaching the basics of how to grow your own food. Children will plant their own herbs and small veggies in the first part of the week and they will learn recipes during the week to use these ingredients. They will learn the importance of fresh food. Clean up will be taught at the end of every class to ensure proper sanitary techniques are employed. Hand washing as well as a safe and sanitary way to clean the kitchen.
AGES 8-12 (other ages will be considered on an individual basis)
Focus on basic culinary knowledge
• Learn basic nutrition and how to make good food choices
• Kitchen safety and sanitation
• Builds confidence
• Employs basic math skill
• Teach basic gardening (Grow your Food Camp)
• Learn the connection between science and food (Food is Science Camp)
Menus
Children will work with Chef Danie to plant their very own mini herb garden. They will also start their own seedlings to take care of for the week of the class and to bring home to plant at the end of the week. They will plant basil, thyme, dill and mint. They will also start their very own vegetable seedling.
We will meet in the classroom and each day we will learn a new recipe using the fresh herbs we planted in the garden. Children will be able each day to eat what they prepare in class.
